Pakistan’s opening batsman Nasir Jamshed’s two centuries in two successive ODIs against India has helped Pakistan clinch a 2-0 victory in the three-match one-day international series.

In the second ODI played in Kolkata’s Eden Gardens on January 3, 2013, Jamshed scored 106 runs off 123 balls before being dismissed by Mahendra Singh Dhoni and bowler Ravindra Jadeja.

23-year-old Jamshed’s performance in the second ODI helped Pakistan score 250 runs in 48.3 overs and secure an 85-run victory against India which finished at 165 – all out in 48 overs.

Jamshed’s second century comes just days after he scored an unbeaten 101 against India in the first match of the ODI series in Chennai. The left-handed batsman’s century helped Pakistan seal a 6-wicket victory.

After being named Man of the Match in the second match, Jamshed said: I just wanted to play my normal game. Hafeez played a superb knock with me, it made it easier. The pitch was a bit slow and difficult at the start. But once I got set, it was easier to play. I like batting against India, everyone follows these games so it was great to perform.” Pakistan’s Mohammed Hafeez scored 76 runs off 74 balls in partnership with Jamshed in the second ODI match.

Indian captain and wicket keeper Dhoni said: “We lost too many wickets with the bat. We could get 80 or 90 runs in the last 10 overs but we needed wickets in hand. That didn't happen so it was too difficult.” Dhoni was the highest scorer in the team with an unbeaten 54 runs off 89 balls.

Pakistan’s win against India follows the Twenty20 series between the two countries which ended in a 1-1 draw.

Although Pakistan has clinched victory against India in the three-match ODI series, the third match is scheduled to take place on January 6 in Delhi.
