Bollywood veteran Amitabh Bachchan has been honoured with civilian award Padma Vibhushan by Indian President Pranab Mukherjee at a formal, prestigious ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhawan on Wednesday, April 8, 2015.

The event was attended by his full family including wife Jaya Bachchan, daughter Sunaina Bachchan and her family, his son Abhishek Bachchan and daughter-in-law Aishwarya Rai Bachchan.

Announcing the award on his official Facebook page, Bachchan said he felt "honoured and humbled" at receiving the award.

Padma Vibhushan is a civilian award in Indian recognizing exceptional and distinguished service to the nation in any field. Padma Vibhushan is second highest award behind Bharat Ratna and is ahead of Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan.

72-year-old Amitabh Bachchan has previously received Padma Shri award in 1984 and Padma Bhushan award in 2001 thereby receiving all three Padma awards.

"Humbled and so grateful to all the well wishers and fans whose love and affection and following brought me from humble beginnings to this state," he said on his Facebook page.

Senior Bachchan also highlighted that the latest high civilian honour, is the sixth Padma honour in the Bachchan family.

In addition to his three Padma awards, his noted poet father Harivanshrai Bachchan was honoured with Padma Bhushan while wife Jaya Bachchan and daughter-in-law Aishwarya Rai Bachchan both received Padma Shri awards.

"Feel blessed," Bachchan added on his social media page.

50 people including the actor were honoured at the awards ceremony on Wednesday, April 8, 2015. Other Padma awardees include lawyer K K Venugopal, Shia leader Prince Karim Aga Khan, filmmaker Jahnu Barua, Indo-Canadian mathematician Manjul Bhargava, computer scientist Vijay Bhatkar, and spiritual guru Swami Satyamitranand Giri among others.
