Bihar CM Nitish Kumar has tendered his resignation in a sudden move

July 27, 2017 - BREAKING NEWS* Nitish Kumar quits as Bihar Chief Minister and then swaps alliances to join BJP-led NDA and takes oath as Bihar CM again 14 hours after he resigned.

Senior BJP leader Sushil Kumar becomes Deputy CM of Bihar.

Nitish Kumar, JDU, following his sudden resignation from Bihar CM post on July 26th, formed an alliance with BJP to swear in as Bihar CM for the sixth time on July 27th. His resignation was praised by PM Modi who offered full support of BJP to form government in Bihar.

On Wednesday, July 26, Bihar CM Nitish Kumar tendered his resignation to Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi after weeks of political drama involving Lalu Prasad Yadav and his son Tejashwi Yadav, the Deputy CM of Bihar. On July 7th, Lalu and son were named in corruption case by the CBI following a search of their Patna home. Lalu Yadav said, son Tejashwi will not quit.

Talking to the media following sudden resignation, Nitish Kumar said: "Ever since the corruption charges were levelled against RJD leaders, we have been asking them to at least explain those charges. We also told him [Tejashwi] that the image that is being created, he should clarify all that. But this did not happen. The situation got so worse that it became difficult for me to work. Now, my conscience does not allow me to continue." Kumar's resignation ends the three-way collaboration between his party, JDU and Congress and Lalu Yadav's RJD.
